What is Nursing?

Nursing is a healthcare profession focused on caring for individuals, families, and communities to help them maintain or recover good health. Nurses assist doctors, manage patient care, and support recovery through compassion, clinical skills, and medical knowledge.

A nursing program typically lasts:

  • B.Sc Nursing – 4 years

  • GNM (General Nursing & Midwifery) – 3 years

  • ANM (Auxiliary Nursing & Midwifery) – 2 years

  • Post Basic B.Sc Nursing – 2 years

  • M.Sc Nursing – 2 years (after B.Sc)

Nursing Entrance Exams :

  • AIIMS B.Sc Nursing – For AIIMS institutes

  • NEET-UG – Accepted by some top colleges

  • MNS (Military Nursing Service) – For Indian Army nursing

  • JIPMER Nursing – For JIPMER Puducherry

  • State-level Exams – RUHS, MHT CET, etc.

  • Private Colleges – Manipal, Symbiosis, SRM may have own tests

Some colleges also offer direct admission based on 12th marks.

After Nursing, you can:

  • 👩‍⚕️ Work as a Registered Nurse in hospitals/clinics

  • 🚑 Join government health services or army nursing

  • 📚 Pursue higher studies like M.Sc Nursing or specializations

  • 🌍 Work abroad (after clearing licensing exams like NCLEX, HAAD, etc.)

  • 🏥 Become a Nurse Educator, Researcher, or Administrator

Nursing Course Fees in India (Approx):

  • B.Sc Nursing: ₹40,000 – ₹2,50,000 per year

  • GNM: ₹30,000 – ₹1,50,000 per year

  • ANM: ₹20,000 – ₹80,000 per year

  • Post Basic B.Sc Nursing: ₹30,000 – ₹1,20,000 per year

  • M.Sc Nursing: ₹50,000 – ₹2,00,000 per year
